Pusong Fish Revenue Base Has Much Potential, But Needs Supporting Facilities |
The Mayor of Lhokseumawe and members of the DPR Aceh (Aceh's Parliementents) inspected the location of the fish landing base.
The Fish Landing Base in Pusong, Lhokseumawe City, has much potential to be developed. Unfortunately, the supporting facilities are still inadequate so that fishermen have not been able to optimize their income.
In fact, the need for marine and fishery products in Lhokseumawe can support local needs and prospective exports. If basic facilities can be met, fishermen will be able to increase their catch.
"However, because the basic supporting facilities are inadequate, the results are still limited," said the Chairman of Commission II of the Aceh DPR, Khairil Syahrial, in a meeting with the Mayor of Lhokseumawe, Sayuti Abubakar, Saturday, May 24, 2025.
The group from Commission II of the Aceh DPR in charge of the Economy, Natural Resources, and the Environment, met with the Mayor of Lhokseumawe to discuss the construction of supporting facilities at the Pusong PPI which is under the Aceh Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service.
According to Khairil Syahrial, with the construction of several facilities such as dock repairs and dredging, the status of the Pusong PPI can be upgraded to a Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD).
"The results of the study, there are several PPIs in Aceh that meet the requirements to be upgraded to UPTD. We hope that the Mayor will support the upgrade in status," added Khairil in front of the Mayor and several heads of departments at the Lhokseumawe Pendopo.
He said that Aceh has potential in fisheries and marine product cultivation such as grouper, seaweed, salt, and even sea cucumbers. "There are already fishery products that have been exported, but they are not optimal compared to the potential that we have," he said.
Sayuti Abubakar fully supports the upgrade of the PPI status to UPTD to increase fishermen's income. However, there are several problems that must be resolved, such as land ownership that is still under the North Aceh Regency Government.
Member of Commission II of the Aceh DPR, Thantawi, hopes that the Aceh Government can facilitate the transfer of land assets from the North Aceh Regency Government to the Lhokseumawe City Government. "We will oversee this process as well as the upgrade of the status of PPI Pusong to UPTD," added the former member of the North Aceh DPRK.
The Mayor and all members of Commission II of the Aceh DPR reviewed the PPI Pusong to see its condition firsthand. On that occasion, fishermen in Pusong complained about a number of facilities that were no longer suitable for use.
In addition to Khairil Syahrial and Thantawi, members of Commission II of the Aceh DPR who came to the location included Saiful Bahri alias Pon Yaya, T Heri Suhadi, Rahmuddinsyah, M. Natsir, Muhammad Iqbal, and a number of other members.
The PPI Coordinator in Lhokseumawe, Asmadi, explained that to upgrade the PPI to UPTD, several steps must be taken, such as feasibility which includes potential, capacity, and infrastructure needs. In addition, improvements to facilities and other administrative stages are also needed.[]
