Monitoring the Results of the Re-vote in Sabang |
The re-vote or PSU (in Bahasa) for the regional head election in Sabang, Aceh, Indonesia, went smoothly and safely according to the expectations of all parties; organizers, participants, and the wider community. This is a moment to be grateful for because in several other places in Indonesia, the PSU was chaotic and even caused fatalities, like in Papua case for example. The maturity of all parties involved is very much needed to maintain a conducive atmosphere and control the desire for power.
However, what is more important is the integrity of the organizers, in this case the Regional General Election Commission or the Independent Election Commission and the Election Supervisory Committee in Aceh. Ideal regulations and the honesty of participants and voters will be meaningless when the integrity of the organizers is not maintained.
So far, it has been proven that where there is chaos, there are organizers who violate the code of ethics, either secretly or openly. If the organizers maintain their integrity, any chaos that exists can be resolved according to regulations.
As seen on the social media account of the Sabang City Independent Election Commission, candidate pair number 2, Zulkifli H Adam - Suradji who advanced through the independent route, obtained 307 votes. Defeating candidate pair number 3 from three supporting parties, Ferdiansyah - Muhammad Isa who obtained 188 votes. Meanwhile, candidate pair number 1, Hendra - Marwan only obtained one vote.
The PSU in Sabang City was indeed only carried out at one polling station or TPS, namely at TPS number 02 Jurong Cot Klah in Paya Seunara Village, Suka Makmue District. The existence of the PSU was a decision from the Constitutional Court following the lawsuit against the election results.
All parties, especially the Election Supervisory Committee, should monitor the results of this PSU until the final, including if there is a possibility of a lawsuit at the Constitutional Court. The results of this PSU have indeed been widely circulated in the community in various forms. However, all eyes must be on the next stage so that the sanctity of the voting booth is maintained until the end.
Dissatisfied parties can take the available path, namely filing an application to the Constitutional Court. That is the only last room that is constitutionally available. All attempts at cheating, including affairs with the organizers, must be removed from the agenda.
All parties must accept the results of the PSU sincerely, both the winners and especially the losers. Filing an application to the Constitutional Court is not an attitude of insincerity, but rather a form of compliance with the constitution.
All eyes are now on the results of the PSU. The wider community, even those outside Sabang and outside Aceh, are also watching. The maturity of thinking and attitude as well as control of the desire for power from the candidate pairs and their teams, are awaited by the people of Sabang.[]
