"Dental Specialties: Endodontics"

in Healthy Steem2 days ago (edited)

Greetings Steemians! It's a pleasure to be participating in this contest about endodontics. Contests like this help to broaden my knowledge on some aspects of our health including the teeth which are really valuable to us. I love participating in these sorts of contests because they require one to do needed research so as to be better acquainted with the topic and then write on it and as research is done, learning takes place as well!

🦷 You knew about endodontics and its scope. Could you define it and what its scope is in your own words?

To the best of my knowledge, endodontics is a branch of dentistry that has to do with the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and injuries that affects the soft tissue inside the tooth and the tissues surrounding the tooth. It also involves treating the root canal, removing an infected tissue their surgery and other retreatments.

🦷 At some point you have had the experience of undergoing a root canal treatment or endodontic treatment or a family member, what has been your experience or what have they told you?

Few years ago, my dad had to undergo a tooth removal and treatment and he felt anxious or apprehensive before the procedure, but he was told that he will be given modern anesthesia and other techniques and the treatment was really effective. He still has to go for checkups after a while to assess the condition of the tooth and do some fillings.

🦷 Technology has advanced a lot. Could you do a little research on endodontics performed with a microscope or with amplifiers and with rotating instruments?

Truly, advances in technology have really improved endodontic treatments. Through my thorough research, I have found some noteworthy developments.

First is the microscopic endodontics.
This is the use of high-powered microscopes to look and assess the root canal system, this allows the dentist to identify any underlying condition and is important for more precise and effective treatments.

The Second development I discovered through my research is the Rotating Instruments
It is an instrument called the Nickel-titanium (NiTi) files and reamers which can rotate, and makes it easier to clean and shape the root canal of the patient efficiently.

Third, are Amplifiers and Ultrasonic Devices.
These are tools that use vibrations that have high frequency to remove debris and any tissue that has been infected from the root canal.

🦷 If you had your hands on it, would you decide: save a tooth or have it extracted?

I think saving a natural tooth is usually the best option whenever possible. Due to the advances in technology like I earlier mentioned, endodontic treatments can help preserve the tooth, maintain its function, and prevent the need for more expensive treatments. In some cases, like that of my dad, extraction may be necessary if the tooth is severely damaged or infected.

But regardless of whatever choice a person has regarding his or her dental condition, the decision still depends on the individual case and the recommendation from a professional dentist.

Thank you so much @helengutier2 for organising contests like this that helps us research and learn new things and thanks for reading friends, hope you learnt a thing or two!
