What role does the press play in society? Why is it important for a healthy democracy?

 

Press plat a huge role in society, first of all we all trust press, what we read in newspapers and that is our first thing that we do in the morning. We love to know what happened over night in the world and when we know that everything was calm and no bad events then we can breath through and continue our day. That is why it is very easy to manipulate people with different news, that could influence people and form the their opinion. In democracy there are many different source of information, there are some from state, but also many independent. The best is to read many different sources so that you can create your own opinion.

 

Is social media a part of the press? Should freedom of expression apply equally there?

 

I do not think that social media is good source of information, because I can see how the information deviates from the truth. People who spread the news in social media given by ordinary people and often they have the reflection of opinion of speaker who does the video or the posts about the news. It is more like your personal opinion. Sometimes, again I see that my grandma could be influenced by watching the news in TikTok and that is something very dangerous, because I see how much nonsense. In democracy it is still allowed anyone to express their opinion and we should not restrict anyone to do so unless it cause harm for individuals or group of people.

 

What would a society without press freedom look like? Can you imagine such a future?

 

Society without freedom of speech will be just a dictatorship, because then we receive information just from one source and no matter who will spread those news they will be all the same. That way it is easy to manipulate people and understandable in the countries where dictators at the rule they would love this kind of situation.

 

If you were a journalist, what topic would you write about and why?

 

I would write about the kindness and patience that we are lacking today. We think about our own life and we do not think about the rest of the world. We do not like our government only because they do not fulfil one or another promises, but it is important that like in my country we have peace and live free, we can say what we think and do what we want. We have any chances and only what we need to concentrate and try to do our best and not to complain much.
