Contest : What is more important in life – Success or Happiness?

We all want to be happy, we all want to be successful, but do we see success in the same way? Okay, yes! We want to be successful but to at what cost, our happiness or worse our life? Okay, we want to happy, so then, what should we do? Well, here is what I think of it all.
Can a person be truly happy without being successful in society’s eyes? |

This right here is indeed a very interesting question to ask. But then, I believe and I know that it is very possible for someone (even myself) to be happy without being successful in society's eyes.
Remember everyone sees success in different angles and our society today often defines success by things like wealth, fame, or a prestigious job. But then, happiness on the other is a much more personal thing, like I said earlier everyone sees success differently. We need to remember that happiness comes from us feeling fulfilled, connected, and at peace, which we may find from different purposes and place as some may find happiness through helping others, while others may find it by pursuing their passions, or simply enjoying their loved ones.

Therefore, it is important to remember that happiness is rather a journey and not a destination, because it is about finding joy in the little things we do and appreciating what we have. Success on the other hand is just one piece of the puzzle, and it doesn't necessarily guarantee happiness.
To make my point clear, let us imagine two people, where one is a famous actor, making millions of dollars, but feels lonely and unfulfilled and the other is a classroom teacher, making a modest income, but loves the job his doing and feels deeply connected to his students. Which of the two people do you think is happier?
Well, I cannot tell for sure, but then it is clear that success doesn't always guarantee happiness and the teacher might be happier because he finds joy in his work and feels a sense of purpose, even if he doesn't have the same level of financial success.
This is to say that happiness indeed comes from within, not from things like money or fame, but it is about finding what makes us feel fulfilled and content.
Do you believe success automatically brings happiness, or are they two separate things? |

For me, I see success and happiness like two different flavors of an ice cream, where they can both be enjoyed together, but they don't necessarily have to be together, meaning that success can be celebrated with happy faces and all, and sometimes the happiness can be genuine also but then not all success does bring happiness.
For example, imagine someone who is really good at baking, and this person wins a baking competition. This is considered a success right? But, what if the person is passionate about something else but being forced into baking like our parents do, and the person doesn't actually enjoy it? Exactly, the person might not feel happy even though he/she successful because this person is passionate about something else.
Now, on the other hand, someone else might be a terrible baker, but because this person love making cookies for friends and family. Even though the person is not winning any competition at all, there is always joy because the person is making family and friends happy.
Therefore, success can bring us happiness if it is something we genuinely care about, because happiness comes from us feeling fulfilled and at peace with ourselves, and it is about us finding joy in the things that matter to us, whether they bring us societal recognition or not. So to answer your question, for me, success doesn't automatically bring happiness, but it can contribute to it if it is in line with our values and passions.
If you had to choose only one — a happy life with simple living or a successful life with stress — which would you pick and why? |

I will choose a happy life with simple living, any time, any day. Why would I want to live with something that kills? haven't you heard that stress kills whereas happiness is a medicine to the soul?
Why should I want to live a life filled with constant pressure and stress, where I am always chasing the next big thing, working long hours, and sacrificing my personal life for the sake of it?. Yes! I might be successful, but at what cost?
For me, my happiness is more important than the way our society today sees success. I am all about finding joy in the little things, feeling connected to others, and living a life that aligns with my values, even if it is not to be glamorous, as long as it can be incredibly rich and fulfilling. So, for me, a happy life with simple living is worth more than a stressful life filled with success, just like we see some of the famous people crying for that peaceful life that once had.
I want to take this opportunity to invite @bossj23, @ikwal and @ruthjoe.
Thank You for your Time
NOTE: Always have a smile on your face, as you are never fully dressed without one.
I love your conclusion. I've learnt virtually 10 things from this post — Happiness with simple living. There's this song that says I rather be crying in a Bentley, portraying that they get happiness when money is there and all but money....Most times I ask myself why most successful people aren't happy and why happy people aren't successful. Such an ironic life
That's a really insightful observation. It's true, sometimes we get caught up in the idea that happiness comes from external things, like money or status, but the truth is, happiness comes from within.
Like happiness, success is within, I maybe successful in my own way, which is different from society eyes. Like you have said, success isn't always about money and social status.
Lemme ask you this, there are two men, one with no steady stream of income, but has a family and have successfully trained all his children in all level of education, then there is the other with all the money in the world, but no family. If both dies, who do you think would be considered more successful?
So in all, just like we are to derive happiness from within, same goes for our success. We should understand that not every face is the same, so also is our paths. Therefore, we should focus on ourselves and achieve the little we can, which will we can record as our success. Not everyone can build mansions, not everyone can have private jets but all of us can be successful in our own ways.

¡Holaaa amigo!🤗
This right here is indeed a powerful observation. You're right, relying solely on others for our own happiness can be risky. It's like building our castle on shifting sand. We need to find that inner strength and joy, so we can stand under any storm.
I love your perspective and appreciate the kind words. You're a true friend, and I'm sending you a big hug back. Wishing you the very best in your endeavors too.
