Steemit Learning Challenge-S27W2; Physiofit; Swelling Reduction Challenge
Hi friends,
I am Jyoti from India. Here I am going to participate in the Steemit Learning Challenge-S27W2 contest: https://steemit.com/steem-physio-rehab/@ashkhan/steemit-learning-challenge-s27w2-physiofit-swelling-reduction-challenge organised by @ashkhan
Task 1:
1: First you have to share your knowledge about swelling, it's type and pathophysiology.
Swelling
Swelling is a kind of Inflammation that occurs in the body parts due to the accumulation of interstitial fluid in tissues. It is a protective response of the body's immune system against harmful factors such as injury or infection. Types of inflammation can be transient or chronic, depending on the nature of the injury or disease. Its pathophysiology is that the body's immune system triggers processes to fight the inflammation.
Types of Inflammation
Inflammation is primarily divided into many types:
- Acute
- Chronic inflammation
- Localised Swelling
- Generalised Swelling
- Pitting Swelling
- Non-pitting Swelling
- Inflammatory Swelling
- Non-inflammatory Swelling
Pathophysiology
The first step in the pathophysiology of swelling or oedema is the transfer of fluid from the blood arteries to the interstitial space, which is induced by an increase in pressure within the blood vessels or a drop in pressure due to proteins in the blood. As a result, vascular permeability rises, allowing more fluid to enter the interstitial space.
Task 2:
You have to find a patient with the symptom and share history of injury or illness. You can also share your history too if your suffer from any injury recently that is present with symptom of swelling.
Currently, there are no patients with swelling, but I have such swelling in my legs or body parts. When I walk, fall, or get hit, swelling usually occurs. When that happens, I use ice cubes in a napkin to apply them or soak a towel in boiling water and apply it to the swollen area. When I do that, the swelling decreases and goes away. Usually, when this happens, I do the first aid treatment myself. If it happens on the hips or back, I bandage it with the help of someone else. When my son gets hit while playing and gets swollen, I follow the same method. If I do that, the swelling decreases and goes away. The injured area heals on its own in a few days.
TASK-3
It would be better if you treat the patient pain by performing or apply above given physiotherapy management, share videos or pictures while performing and then review after getting treatment.
As I have already said, I currently do not have any patients suffering from swelling; however, since I work standing for long periods of time, I often get joint and ankle pain and swelling. To relieve it, I followed this ice pack method, and I will explain how I did it here.
Ice
An ice pack is a dry cooling method for treating swelling. Place crushed ice cubes in the bag and sprinkle with common salt. The salt lowers the melting point of the ice and prevents the ice from melting. Crushed ice is better than ice cubes. Crushed ice cubes can be easily applied to the body area and used as an ice pack. There are no air pockets in crushed ice. This provides better cooling properties.
Compression
Similarly, I felt that the pain was reduced by applying compression bandages to my ankles and legs below the knees. Compression stockings, wraps, or compression bandages are used to compress or wrap the affected area tightly to reduce swelling. However, patients should avoid tight bandages as they can cut off blood flow to the affected area.
I would like to invite my friends
