Contest : Mental Health Awareness
What role do media and celebrities play in promoting mental health awareness? |
---|
Celebrities are a large group trying to spread mental health awareness. They go through struggles like anyone else. It's also common that they'll experience stigma since they're always in the public spotlight but many of them know the importance of getting help and acknowledging that mental illness is common because of this more of them are speaking out about their own experiences. They want to encourage others to get help and let them know that they're not alone in this fight. With more mental health awareness from celebrities more people can relate to them and feel confident in getting help.
We also usually think about mental health as being an adult issue but it's affecting children and a more alarming rate. This study from Johns Hopkins actually reveals that children ages 12 to 15 who spend three or more hours aday on social media are twice as likely to experience depression anxiety loneliness aggression or antisocial behavior.
How can education improve understanding of mental health? |

If you wanted to improve the mental health of an entire population, one of the best places you could start is at school.
For one thing, most of us go to school. For 10 years of our lives we have this one thing in common, so it's a place where you can pretty much catch everyone.
High school in particular spans a crucial and often challenging transition into physical and social maturity. It's a time when some young people are vulnerable to stresses and in need of support.
Research has shown that protective factors developed in school can help all students, and they can also offset risk factors from elsewhere in a student's life.
This means that for some students, school can be a haven. Actions taken in school can have a big impact on a student's wellbeing, not just in the short term but over their entire lives.
What are the benefits of creating supportive environments for mental health discussions? |
---|
The digital age brought some good things for our mental health for example the digital age has made it easier for people to find mental health support using online platforms and apps. These platforms allow individuals to seek help and support conveniently remote therapy sessions offered through digital platforms that are more accessible and convenient for those who need them.
In conclusion balancing our mental well-being with the opportunities of the digital age is very important for a healthier and happier life by setting boundaries seeking support when needed and staying mindful of our online activities.
