INTRODUCTION

coagulation problems occur when the body has issues controlling blood clots resulting in excessive bleeding or unwanted clotting.
This problem results from mild to severe deviation from normal of clotting factors(plasma proteins) or due to a change in genetic makeup of a person. They can cause excessive bleeding if the body is unable to form clots properly.

Sometimes, thrombus may form leading to tissue ischemia and inadequate tissue perfusion.
People tend to experience disorders lead to little or no clot at all, an example in males with haemophilia.

COAGULATION PROBLEMS

This is a disorder of the body's inability to form clots during haemorrhage or any instance of bleeding. This condition can be congenital or developed as an individual progresses in life mainly from medications or alterations in low or high secretion of clotting factors by plasma proteins.

The body rely on the coagulation mechanism to organize it vital processes and to maintain adequate fluid balance. Coagulation problems can cause excess bleeding or forming too much clots.
Example of coagulation problems where the body does not form enough body clots is haemophilia.

Similarly,an example of coagulation problems where the body forms too much clots is thromboembolism.

CLASSIFICATION OF COAGULATION PROBLEMS

Since coagulation problems has a two-way effect, it is classified into two which include;

Bleeding coagulation problemClotting coagulation problem

BLEEDING COAGULATION PROBLEM
Bleeding disorder refers to the body's inability to stop blood flow during haemorrhage. This disorder is typically hereditary or through certain medications.

This can result in joint pains, excessive bleeding, weakness, bruising and oedema. An example is the haemophilia. This type is acquired by inherited from gene or developed during one's life.

CLOTTING COAGULATION PROBLEM
This condition is characterized by excessive abnormal formation of blood clots. The factors that usually predisposes an individual to this type of coagulation problem include;lack of exercise, hereditary, malnutrition, sedentary lifestyles, certain medications.

This results in signs and symptoms like body and joint pains, swelling, tenderness,varicose veins.
Example is the Pulmonary embolism

WHAT TO DO IN CASES OF BLEEDING

1.Detect the source
2.Apply firm pressure to the bleeding site
3.Elevate the body part involved
4.Cover the area if there is injury
4.If it is severe,seek medical attention for the following;
*Fluid administration to replace lost fluid
*Anticoagulant administration
*Vitamin k supplements administration
*Factors replacement therapy
*Haematinics administration to replace lost blood

HOW ARE COAGULATION PROBLEMS CONTROLLED

This disorder can be controlled or treated based on the classification and it's severity. Treatment is based on signs and symptoms in order to minimize complications.

For Bleeding disorders;

1.Anti-fibrinolytic drugs to treat bleeding after childbirth or surgeries
2.Birth control pills to reduce menstrual bleeding
desmopressin
3.Immunosuppressive medicines
4.Vitamin K supplements

For thrombophilia;

1.Blood thinners to reduce the risk of clotting in people with hypercoagulable states
2.Thrombin inhibitors or thrombolytics
3.Factor replacement therapy
4.Exercise
5.People who experience a blood clot may need emergency care.
A catheter-assisted thrombus removal involves a doctor using a flexible tube to break up blood clots. They might insert vena cava filters into deep veins to catch blood clots before they travel to the lungs or heart.

COMPLICATIONS OF COAGULATION PROBLEMS

1.cebrovascular accident
2.Long term pain
3.Long term haemorrhage
4.Intracranial haemorrhage
5.Bleeding into joints
6.Paralysis
7.Chest pain

CONCLUSIONS

Coagulation problems is a condition with a two-way effect i.e bleeding and abnormal clotting, these two abnormalities work in synergy to alter bodily functions. This medical condition requires alot of life style modifications on the part of the patient including, active collaboration of the affected individual and healthcare professionals to prevent complications and improve quality of life and health outcomes,avoid sedentary lifestyles,quit smoking, proper nutrition etc.

Coagulation problems are life threatening conditions that should be recommended in all geographical areas including education on its predisposing factors, signs and symptoms,effects, complications and preventions.
By understanding coagulation problems and taking appropriate measures,risks can be minimized and an optimal health is achieved.
