Gonorrhea Awareness
Greetings my dear friends of Steemit and Healthy Steem
Gonorrhea which is a sexually transmitted disease caused by a bacterium known as the neisseria gonorrhea. Now neisseria gonorrhoeae belongs to a group of medically important gram negative cocci. They form the coffee bean like shape called diplococci and they are non-spore forming. The catalyst positive and oxidase positive neisseria gonorrhea is ground negative that means if you stain neisseria gonorrhoeae on a slide with ground stain you get to see gram negative diplococci.
They are facultatively intracellular and typically appear in pairs as diplococci resembling the shape of coffee beans neisseria is non-spore forming and they lack motility and they are obligate aerobe that means they require oxygen to grow
Now where neisseria Gregorian belong in the microbial world. Now in the microbial world of free living bacteria they can be either gram positive or gram negative. Gram negative bacteria can be gram negative cocci or gram negative bacilli.
Now ground negative cocci arnis and acinetobacter in this area. We have two important medically relevant species known as neisseria gonorrhoeae and neisseria meningitidis.
Now neisseria infection is increasing with every passing year and the global infection rate of neisseria gonorrhea and the south asian countries like India Pakistan Afghanistan and the entire african continent are the worst affected.
Neisseria transmission occurs through unprotected sexual intercourse having multiple sexual partners. Transmission can occur from mother to fetus during pregnancy or it may also get transmitted during blood transfusion.
Once we have diagnosed gonorrhea we have to treat that. Teatment includes ceftriaxone injection the cdc recommends a single dose of 500 mg of intravascular safety reaction for gonorrhea.
Reinfection of gonorrhea is very very common and re-testing after three months of treatment is advisable.
April is STI Awareness Month. STI stands for sexually transmitted infection. Now STI tends to hit young people the hardest and every year there are over 1 million new cases of sexually transmitted infections most of which are asymptomatic as I mentioned before STI can be asymptomatic which is why it's important to get screened and getting screened is very easy you can do it at home with home test kits.
Although I would recommend working in conjunction with a healthcare provider because they test via blood and or urine tests. There are some common symptoms that may occur with sexually transmitted infections you may notice lesions or sores around private parts. You may notice a discharge. You may notice different smells or odors that could all be possible symptoms of an STI the way that you pick up STI is through any unprotected sexual interactions and it's important to get screened after every time you have a new partner for example or any new unprotected sexual encounter. In 2022 the rate of STI per 100,000 people was around 1,300.
Teens and young adults account for nearly half of new cases each year stds can cause health issues including infertility and cancer but all stds can be prevented and treated most can be cured the infectious disease.
The Society of America encourages people to take test treats. This means talk to your sexual partner and health care providers test regularly for stds and if you test positive follow medical advice and complete all treatment.
