Medical Titbits: Are you suffering from DM (Diabetes Mellitus)?

in Healthy Steem3 months ago

DM (Diabetes Mellitus) is a terrible disease. It is one of the silent killers that damage almost all the organs and systems in our body, if left untreated and uncontrolled. Prevention is the best option. The second-best option is the early diagnosis and prompt effective management.

The Cleveland Clinic, in a short video, made a short list of symptoms that can be the earliest feature of DM (and its complications). Having a sound knowledge of these symptoms may save us from the detrimental effects of DM. Let us go through the symptoms quickly!

  • Feeling thirstier than before. Also, dryness in the mouth, tongue, and throat.

  • Need to pee more often, especially need to wake up from sleep at night to pee.

  • Repeated urine infection, manifested by frequent passage of urine or a burning sensation while passing urine.

  • Changes in weight without trying for it. There could be weight gain or rapid weight loss!

  • Vision abnormalities, the features of long-standing DM.

  • Extreme fatigue and tiredness

  • Changes in skin condition in certain locations, such as in the neck, axilla, etc, could be due to blood sugar abnormalities.

  • Numbness and tingling of limbs. These are features of complications.

  • Loss of sexual desire

To be mentioned: None of the symptoms is specific for DM. A simple blood sugar test can confirm or exclude DM.

Here is a short video about these symptoms I mentioned above.
