Before I proceed, I would like to thank @ahsansharif, especially for organizing this amazing contest and the community. Is an honor to be part of the participant.
What is Typhoid?
Typhoid fever is a serious bacterial infection caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi. It spreads primarily through contaminated food or water and occasionally through close contact with an infected person.
Key Symptoms
Prolonged high fever
Fatigue, weak muscles
Abdominal pain
Headache
Loss of appetite
Rash in certain cases
Diarrhoea or constipation
How It's Transmitted:
- Poor sanitation conditions and unhygienic habits
Diagnosis and Treatment
Diagnosed by blood, stool, or urine testing
treated with an antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin or
Proper hydration as well as rest are also necessary for recovery
Untreated typhoid can develop a wide range of different complications such as intestinal perforation or intestinal hemorrhage. It needs a timely medical intervention.
What are the three symptoms of Typhoid?
Three of the most frequent symptomatic expressions are:
I. Increased body temperature (develops gradually and can be up to 104°F or 40°C).
II. Fatigue or weakness
They typically develop 1-2 weeks after exposure to the bacteria.
How does Typhoid affect our lives?
It can impact our lives in many different ways:
I. Health Impact: It leads to extended illness with high fever, weakness, and bowel disturbance, and intestinal rupture or hemorrhage, if left untreated.
II. Interfering with Daily Life: The delayed recovery and weakness can impede the individual in school, work, or daily responsibilities for a couple of weeks.
III. Financial burden: Treatment cost, time lost from school or work, and stay in a hospital can be expensive for the individual as well as his or her family.
IV. Public Health Risk: Typhoid is contagious in unclean environments and is capable of leading epidemics, creating infection risk for the public.
It is required in preventing typhoid by having clean water, good personal hygiene, and also immunisation.
How to prevent Typhoid?
To prevent contracting typhoid, you can do the following:
I. Drink Safe Water
Bottled, boiling, or treated water is advised for consumption and toothbrushing.
II. Follow Proper Hygiene
Use soap and water in order to wash your hands properly, both before you consume anything and after you go to the bathroom. Teach proper hand washing habits in children.
III. Eat Safe Food
Eat newly cooked, hot food. Don't eat raw fruits and vegetables unless you can peel your own.
Avoid eating street food where sanitation is poor.
IV. Vaccinate yourself
Typhoid vaccinations are indicated, in particular, for those traveling from high-risk areas or for those in unsanitary conditions
V. Encouraging sanitation
Ensure correct sewage disposal to avoid clogging of waterways.
Always crucial to provide reach of sanitation facilities and clean water at a community level.
By taking these precautions, you can reduce your chances of getting typhoid fever significantly.
