Tarkan!

It's been a while since this song was a big (summer) hit. Everyone knew at least Tarkan's kiss kiss and of course the kissing sounds. Was he the Elvis Presley of the 90s? I've never seen it that way and I definitely don't find the English version of this song attractive. It probably loses the charm of the Turkish language.

Actually, I missed the rest of Tarkan's career when the message came that he had to join the army. Luckily for him, he was able to shorten it considerably by coughing up a sum of money. If he didn't go, he could lose his Turkish nationality. I wonder if that would have been bad, considering he also lived overseas and was born in Germany. Would the government really have taken away the nationality of a singer who became world famous by singing in Turkish? It seems very unlikely to me.

When he was heard on the radio again with a song after his military service, the charm was gone. Who knows, maybe it was the cold winter, the filthy food in the army that affected his voice or maybe his songs were just not attractive enough anymore because those who only hear him on the radio have nothing to look at.
