Daily writing prompt for Sunday : Five Seconds
Those Five seconds had made all the difference.
Five seconds was all it took.
Their relationship had ended tearfully. They had been madly in love, but misunderstandings had torn them apart.
They faught, they traded accusations and ultimately ended up pushing each other away.
It was only after their relationship ended that they realized what they once had. Something they might never find again.
He had not been able to stop thinking about her and all the joy she had brought him. And he wondered if she thought of him half as much. Or if she thought of him at all.
She would wake up from beautiful dreams about him to the appalling reality of her empty bed. And she'd wonder if he had dreamt of her too.
Now as they stood across from each other on this conference hall, their respective companies having closed a huge deal, they could scarcely hide their feelings. So palpable was their longing that even their coworkers and bosses could feel the shift in the atmosphere.
After the two groups of executives shook hands and exchanged pleasantries, and began to head for the exit, he wondered if she would say something to him.
She didn't.
She simply entered to elevator with her colleagues.
However, in the five seconds that it took for her boss to join her and for the elevator doors to close, their eyes met.
And in those five seconds, her eyes told him all he needed to know.
She missed him. She still loved him. She would give their love another chance if he would do the same.
His decision was made.
That very evening, he would wait outside her office building and would ask her to have dinner with him. He would take her to the finest place in town and treat her like the Queen that she was. His Queen.
They would talk, sort out whatever misunderstandings that lingered. And they would fight for the beautiful future they could have.
The raw emotion he had seen in her eyes instilling in him a new vigour to rekindle their love. The love that had made him feel more alive than ever. The love that he couldn't believe he had nearly lost.
Those Five seconds had made all the difference.
Those 5 seconds are the culmination of many years of accumulated disappointments. Like a rock, it doesn't break because of the thousandth blow, but the accumulation of all those blows.
During the moments of loneliness it can be that they both missed abother but after all those fights and mistrust I find it hard to believe that a dinner in the finest restaurant can make up for all those misunderstandings. It's also not the place to have a good talk. Fine restaurants are meant to keep your mouth shut and stay polite.
Let's hope he didn't interpreted those 5 seconds wrong like he did during their relationship.
