Special thanks to @freewritehouse for organizing this powerful prompt, it gave me the chance to transform pain into poetry. Your work does more than you know. Thank you for the light you bring to the creative world.

Forever Goodbye

Having you in my life
was more than I ever deserved,
through every shadow, every storm,
you walked beside me, undeterred.

I have wandered through darkness,
fought battles with you by my side.
You never got tired,
even when I was breaking inside.

I thank God for knowing you,
for the light you gave my soul.
But now, my strength is fading,
and the journey feels too whole.

I promised I’d walk to the end,
but even your strength,
and mine together,
can’t carry me anymore.

I’m so sorry.
This is not what I planned.
But I need eternal rest
I must let go of your hand.

This road, this death,
I must walk alone.
You deserve to live,
to breathe, to be known.

So, with love and aching grace,
I hereby say...
forever goodbye.

Inspiration from the Image

The moment I saw the picture of two people walking quietly down a forest path, it stirred something deep within me. It reminded me of life's journey , how we walk together with the people we love, sharing both the light and the dark. But sometimes, the journey must end for one, and a painful goodbye follows. This poem reflects that feeling: walking together until the path splits, and one soul must rest, leaving the other to continue alone.

Thank you so much for supporting me, I'm grateful.

You gave a good and heartfelt description of the picture... The forest, the darkness, their age show the road we take at the end of the days. Autumn, close to winter, being one with nature and the walk is a good moment moment to say goodbye and thank you for the time together.

Ah!
Unrequited love.
The dreaded sword that pierces the soul into shreds.
