Poor memory

"I don't remember," Lorenzo shrieked, wanting to go home.

"If you don't remember, I'll make you pay."

"Don't hit me!"

Miguel squeezed his cousin's wrist, which had cut off circulation. Sitting on the sidewalk in front of the mailboxes of the houses in the neighborhood, Lorenzo cried and rubbed his sore wrist.

Three days ago, Miguel had written a letter to María, a girl he was in love with, and put it in an envelope. Lorenzo was aware of his feelings for the girl and, thinking it was a good idea, sealed it, added some stamps Miguel had on his desk, and put it in the house's mailbox.

Knowing how long it would take for the explicit letter to arrive, Miguel ran with Lorenzo in his arms and headed to the neighborhood where María lived. With every stride he took, Miguel couldn't stop thinking of an apology for his crush and his parents.

All he had to do was remember Maria's mailbox number and take the letter out. He knew there was a three in there somewhere.

Full Steam Ahead!!!

Susana typed, locked in her office, resisting the urge to look at her wristwatch and the clock in the lower right corner of the screen.

It had been over three hours since she'd had breakfast. Her stomach digested the entire contents in a matter of minutes, and the glasses of water and cups of coffee had barely quelled her hunger.

Running against the clock and eager to have the weekend free, Susana wanted to do as much as she could and spend her time off work on personal matters.

When she finalized the last section of the report, Susana quietly celebrated and prepared to close. She looked at her wristwatch and saw it was 2:00 p.m.

No wonder she was so hungry! She thanked her body for putting up with it and got ready to eat.

What a botch job!

Perry and I entered the suspect's apartment once he left for work. We went through his things and put them back where they belonged. There were few clues to confirm our suspicions about his illicit activities until I found a document that caught my attention because the paper was a little wrinkled and had a strange smell. I took a lighter out of my pocket and lit it. I held the paper closer and saw a message that might be useful to us.

"Okay, let's go," I announced to Perry, as I made my way out.

Once in the office, I showed the message to two other colleagues using someone else's lighter. They wrote down what was on the paper and took it to their boss.

Feeling triumphant, I went to get some coffee. When I returned to my office, I saw the burning paper in Perry's hands. I hated working with him because he always screwed up, and in creative and stupid ways.

I took a deep breath and calmed down, thinking that at least the boss knew what the note said.
