Teena a believer in rules and being fair in all she does, in her seriousness strode in and out doing her job in the company as a fincial analyst and is not the type to keep quiet when she sees or senses that something is not right and won’t hesitate to talk about it even if her boss is not happy with it.

Dev on the other hand, the charming and smart head of the marketing department seemed to be carefree and loves to take risks being from a wealthy family.

In a swift turn of events, Teena was posted to the marketing department to oversee their financial records including travel expenses. Things started well until their differences became the fulcrum of their problems.

The conflict
Teena began to notice that Devs department spends in an unusual way. First it was the extra hotel bills, followed by dinners she thought was way to expensive, to entertainments claimed to be for clients. She wouldn’t take those claims.

“We need to be flexible in marketing” Teena Dev blurted out to frustration. Everything must not fit into your rule book he continued.

I understand you have to be flexible Teena reiterated but that doesn’t mean you have to waste the company’s money she said firmly.

So they argued week after week. They had the dirties fight when Teena stopped a payment for a huge amount of money for a Dubai deal because it had incomplete paper works.

Dev was extremely angry and couldn’t take it any more. You just risked a deal worth millions. Or You mean I just stopped a fraud attempt Teena retorted.

Their boss wasn’t impressed with the turnout of events between the two. You both better fix this or you will regret my actions he warned.

The understanding
One night, Teena decide to work late after work to review the Dubai project file. While working on her screen, a flicker revealed a hand written watermark that was hidden. On probing further she saw codes and encryptions that were linked to a secret account.

On decoding them, she noticed that Dev was not careless after all. He was running a loyalty program secretly through which he paid clients on time to be able to win bigger contracts from them. These made the company made more profits from these deals than what their normal deals could give.

So you were keep track of everything after all she said to Dev the next morning. I was waiting for you to decode the encryptions and it took you quiet sometime Dev said smiling.

The conversation
For the first time they had a conversation without arguing with each other. I’m sorry I judged you too fast Teena said. I could have explained my methods better to you Dev admitted.

The two called a truce and decided to work together from that day onwards. Teena would keep making sure that the limit of their financial risks are safe while Dev would continue to figure out more creative ways to ensure the company’s revenue continues to grow.

The result
The company recorded its highest profits ever in its history three months later. The company’s threw a party to celebrate the team for their effort and praised their team work and their CEO called their team work “a perfect blend of innovation and rules”.

As they were rounding up with the party, a message appeared on the office screen they share
“classified! Unusual financial activities detected”.

Another mystery? Dev retorted his brows furrowed. This time around we will solve it together Teena said as she adjusted her glasses.

The alien symbols appeared again and the screen flickered the second time. Teena and Dev looked at each other, this is more than just a financial puzzle, this might be their journey to something beyond their corporate world.

Feedback

  • You captured Teena and Dev's personalities well, and I liked that you explored their conflict with expenses and the Dubai deal but the alien-symbol ending felt disconnected from the rest of the story.
