THAT I MAY TEST THEM

2 THEN THE WHOLE CONGREGATION OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL COMPLAINED AGAINST MOSES AND AARON IN THE WILDERNESS.
3 And the children of Israel said to them, “Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
4 THEN THE LORD SAID TO MOSES, “BEHOLD, I WILL RAIN BREAD FROM HEAVEN FOR YOU. AND THE PEOPLE SHALL GO OUT AND GATHER A CERTAIN QUOTA EVERY DAY, THAT I MAY TEST THEM, WHETHER THEY WILL WALK IN MY LAW OR NOT."
Exodus 16:2-4 (NKJV)

There are number of things that could be learnt in the passage above, as a believer who is walking with God:

I. Learn not to be presenting your requests before God with complaints. A believer may have a legitimate request but the presentation of it before God might be wrong. What the Israelites were asking for was a legitimate thing, food, which is a necessity; but their presentation was completely wrong.
If you needed food, shelter, and clothing, these are basic needs of life. If you asked God, you will not be denied, however, your way of asking might be wrong—your approach to it might be wrong. God did not reprove the Israelites for asking for food, but they did ask with complaints (Exodus 16:2).
Learn how to wrap your requests before God with appreciation, thanksgiving and praise: "ENTER INTO HIS GATES WITH THANKSGIVING, AND INTO HIS COURTS WITH PRAISE. BE THANKFUL TO HIM, AND BLESS HIS NAME" (Psalm 100:4 NKJV).

Tell God of His goodness in the past. Appreciate things He had done before, and then you can present whatever you want before Him. The Israelites complaints was premised or based on, that they were better off in Egypt. In other words, they would have loved to remain in Egypt than embarking on the journey to the promised land (Exodus 16:3).

II. Another thing to learn in the passage is, an answer to your prayer or request is a test.
God said He was giving them food to test their obedience (Exodus 16:4). He wanted them to gather the food in quotas, rationing It for them. A needed quota for each day. There should be no storage or hoarding, but the greedy nature of mankind would not allow them to be satisfied with the daily quota system proposed by God. Whereas, God deliberately did that to test their obedience.
If God has answered your prayer and granted your request, the blessing given to you is a test.

Greed would not allow a man, human, to think right or straight. You would see someone in a leadership position, in government, he or she would want to embezzle what is meant to be shared or rationed with others—he or she alone would want to take everything.
God's instruction was, take the amount of food you needed for the day and leave the rest, but covetousness would not allow humans to be obedient (Exodus 16:19,20).

Whatever God has done for you or He is doing for you in an answer to your prayer, It is a test! Which means, If you handle what He has given you or He is giving you well, more blessings or other blessings would be added. In other words, He would want to know how you Use the one given to you before more could be added or supplied.
Albeit, If you disobeyed or did not use the blessing judiciously, as God intended, you may not have the privilege of receiving more and answers to other requests of yours may be withheld.
You will not fail in Jesus' name.
Peace.
