IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST ANYONE, FORGIVE HIM 1
25 “AND WHENEVER YOU STAND PRAYING, IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST ANYONE, FORGIVE HIM, THAT YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN MAY ALSO FORGIVE YOU YOUR TRESPASSES. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
Mark 11:25,26 (NKJV)
• People pray in anticipation of receiving or getting results or answers to their prayers.
- As a believer in Christ Jesus, If you want to have a result oriented prayer, you had to do it or pray in line with the Bible.
- God is committed to His Word. His Word is settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89). He magnified His Word above His name: "I WILL WORSHIP TOWARDS YOUR HOLY TEMPLE, AND PRAISE YOUR NAME FOR YOUR LOVINGKINDNESS AND YOUR TRUTH; FOR YOU HAVE MAGNIFIED YOUR WORD ABOVE ALL YOUR NAME" (Psalm 138:2 NKJV).
- One of the things that could hamper or hinder the results to your prayer is unforgiveness—unwilling to forgive. This Jesus emphasizes in a number of His teachings.
- A lot of prayers being prayed by many who professed to be believers are not Bible based prayers. Such prayers are only being considered by God on the platform of mercy.
- To pray aright is, or means, to pray in line with the Bible, the Word of God. You cannot plead your cause before God If what you had brought As a request is not consistent or in agreement with His Word—the principles of the Bible (John 15:7).
• Jesus said: " . . . WHENEVER YOU STAND PRAYING, IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST ANYONE, FORGIVE HIM . . . " (Matthew 11:25).
- In other words, unforgivingness would be a big BUT in your prayers. A big obstacle to the answers to your prayers.
Unforgivingness is a major barrier to the answers in prayer. - In a similar vein, Jesus emphasizes that If you brought a gift or an offering and you remembered that you had a rift or quarrel against someone, you should go and reconcile with the person before you come and offer your gift or offering: 23 THEREFORE IF YOU BRING YOUR GIFT TO THE ALTAR, AND THERE REMEMBER THAT YOUR BROTHER [someone] HAS SOMETHING AGAINST YOU, 24 LEAVE YOUR GIFT THERE BEFORE THE ALTAR, AND GO YOUR WAY. FIRST BE RECONCILED TO YOUR BROTHER, AND THEN COME AND OFFER YOUR GIFT" (Matthew 5:23,24 NKJV).
- In other words, the gift you brought as an offering is not as important as the reconciliation between you and your brother or the person.
• What you are having against someone in your heart would be an hindrance to your prayers. Although, what someone else is having against you which you know nothing about would not stand or be used against you.
- God will hold you responsible for what you have against another person which you refused to let go in your heart. Strife or offence against another person would be used against you before God by the devil, Satan, the accuser of brethren—the believers (Revelation 12:10). The devil accuses Us, the believers, to God (Revelation 12:10).
- If you are being accused by the devil before God, God being a just God will verify it, If you are guilty or found culpable, your prayers would be denied. If you flagrantly, or defiantly, living against the Word of God; you are giving a place or an occasion to the devil to accuse you to God.
- In the story of Job, the devil, satan, had made several attempts to harm Job and his family, but a Wall of protection was made round him by God which made the devil unable to harm him (Job 1:10).
- Before Job could be accessed and be attacked by the devil, God had to give him permission (Job 1:12). And with that, the devil could not go beyond the permission given to him. In the first chance, he was allowed to only touch things that belong to Job, not the person of Job (Job 1:12). It was in the second attempt that satan was permitted to touch Job himself, but not to kill him (Job 2:6).
- In other words, the devil cannot succeed in afflicting or attacking a believer with problems, a genuine child of God who is walking in obedience and covenant relationship with God, without God's knowledge.
- If a believer strayed from the truth, the Word of God, and forsaken love, move outside the practicing of love; the devil would have the opportunity or privilege to strike (Ephesians 4:27).
