Train ... Destination Destiny
Edwin and Elsie decided to take the train rather than a plane or a bus or even drive themselves. I mean a train. As far as transportation safety goes, trains are probably one of the safest ways to travel. It's economical too. And besides it'll be fun to see the countryside pass by the window.
The farms with their cows, sheep and goats. The fields of corn and soy beans, watermelon and cotton. The rhythmic sound of wheels moving over the rails has a calming effect. Almost hypnotic. They had been looking forward to this little get away for quite some time. Destination the seaside. In order to get there it would be three hundred miles and some hilly terrain and a tunnel. How exciting!
Arriving ahead of time at the station, Edwin and Elsie checked their bags. They packed lightly planning only for a week of splashing, sunshine and fun at the clubs. They were a cute couple in their early twenties and had been married for five years. Just getting to know each other actually. Always learning something about each other and their reactions to situations as they arose.
Edwin did have a bit of a temper but he never acted out on the physical plane, never hit anyone or broke anything. He would go for a walk and would calm down quickly. Elsie was a little sloppy and untidy but her gentle manner and general jolly good nature made up for dirty dishes in the sink and unfolded laundry.
"All aboard!" the call came over the loud speaker. The train waiting at the station.
Settled into their window seats with a view to the right, the train sped along. It would be a four hour ride with only one stop midway. After the stop the train reached a tunnel. It was very dark inside and Elsie's heart was beating quickly,. She was afraid of the dark and the train was moving so fast. But there was light at the end of the tunnel and thankfully "it wasn't the headlight of an oncoming train. As the old joke goes. Finally for what seemed like forever they were out of the tunnel.
But then there was a steep incline to get over some very hilly terrain. You guessed it Elsie was afraid of heights. Edwin put his arm around her and pulled her close to him. . Edwin feeling very protective reassured her they were almost there. Just another hour. The climb up the incline was bad enough but really it was starting the descent that put Elsie into panic mode. She became nauseous and threw up her lunch into a container provided for ice cubes.
As a start to what was supposed to be a relaxing, fun getaway, this was hopefully not an indication of what the rest of the vacation was going to be like. It was their first vacation as a married couple. They both worked hard all week. Edwin was an accountant and Elsie an attendant at a day care center.
As the train descended the steep slope, it didn't seem to slow down. There was a sharp turn at the bottom of the slope which meant the train needed to slow down to make the turn. But it wasn't slowing, but rather began to pick up speed. Now Edwin became nervous. And everyone else on the train was worried too. Some ladies started screaming and men yelled, "Porter! Porter! What's happening to the train.!"
It seemed there was no time anymore. Just a kind of limbo, suspended in space until the inevitable.
We have our plans but destiny may have other plans for us. There are no accidents. Only events. We may find ourselves in a situation obviously beyond our control but really we are never in control, even when it seems like we are.
For every action there is a reaction. Caught up in the chain of action and reaction we go through life. Our actions now determining our fate or destiny later.
To break free from this tight chain of action and reaction there needs to be intervention. That is the significance of seeking a relationship with the Supreme being. Known by many different names in different cultures. But there is only one Supreme Being. He can break the chain.

Thank you for the support and encouragement....
This story depicts a very clear destiny from God, there is nothing Edwin and Elsie can do but surrender to the situation, no matter what happens.
The point I want to draw again is, why did God allow the accident to happen? Isn't He the Most Merciful, surely wanting the best for everyone...
This is something a lot of people ask. Let me think about it. Will get back with you. Thanks for the exchanges. Have a great day.
I enjoyed your train ride immensely.
