CBI files case after finding fake Chinese spares as ‘Made in Germany’ for Make-In-India gun Dhanush.

It was found that Dhanush, the Indian-made artillery guns used by army, was passed off cheap Chinese parts as ‘Made in Germany’. CBI has filed a case against a Delhi-based company regarding this. The Indian-made gun has proved its ability to strike targets 38 km away and cleared trials with the Indian Army. Original Bofors gun has a range of approximately 27 kilometers. The Army has plans to acquire 414 Dhanush guns.

CBI initial probe suggests that the Gun Carriage Factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur, that built the initial few guns, had accepted a crucial part called ‘Wire Race Roller Bearings’ which is Chinese made .

The factory first ordered for four bearings in 2013. In August 2014, they asked fornsix. The delivery of two bearings each was made on three occasions between 7 April 2014 and 12 August 2014.

Dhanush gun is extremely crucial for India’s defence preparedness. Production and performance of it is very crucial for India. The “wire race roller bearing” is a vital component for Dhanush.
Though its tests showed that the bearings supplied by Delhi-based Sidh Sales Syndicate were unacceptable due to deviations in dimensions, this was done as a special case.

The company had claimed that it was sourcing the spares from a German firm, CRB Antriebstechnik and even produced certificates from this company. The CBI’s complaint said the spares were also embossed as ‘CRB-Made in Germany’.
