Dusk, Birds, and the Silence of the Mangroves

There's a natural ritual that repeats itself every dusk in my area, a sight that may be commonplace for some, but nonetheless captivating for those who pay attention. Here, on the edge of the mangrove forest that serves as my daily backdrop, flocks of egrets use the mangrove treetops as their stage.

Today, I want to share these tranquil moments through a series of black-and-white visuals. I took these shots some time ago, as the golden light of dusk began to slowly sweep over the swamp. Silently, I watched as these graceful birds—which had been scattered about fishing earlier in the day, slowly began to gather again.

They arrived one by one, or in small groups. Some landed firmly, while others hovered for a moment, choosing the best spot. In the almost complete silence, all that could be heard were the gentle flapping of their wings and the occasional chirp, as if they were recounting their day's adventures.

In these black-and-white shots, their slender silhouettes contrast perfectly against the changing dusk sky. Every curve of their necks, every pose they took upon landing, felt like a movement in a practiced dance. The slender mangrove shoots seem to act as a natural stage for the dancers.

These are some of the moments I managed to capture from daily life in the mangrove area that might otherwise go unnoticed by many.
