We are neighbors but there is one huge difference
Recently I traveled to Greece, one particular small island I've never been before to.
So, stay tuned for brand new experiences and visual from that tiny paradise. I just need to make a few extra hours, maybe a couple of days, to post-process those new captures. Also, I almost never edit my photographs right after any event. I don't want the emotions and the fresh memories to cloud my observations and objectivity. Well, as much as it is possible :)
Usually, when I travel abroad, there is no time to sit in front of a TV, however, this particular voyage, there was this one evening, when I was waiting for someone and I didn't want to dig into my phone...
So I turned the TV on and found some culture related stuff on one of their national TV stations.
Of course, I was a subject to several advertising sets.
Compared to Bulgaria, it wasn't different with regards to the frequency - every 15 minutes or so there was a break of a few minutes.
Then, the huge difference struck me.
There wasn't any drug or medical-related adv!
Sadly and pretty much boringly, in my country every other pub is about a drug or a food supplement, or services related to that. It doesn't matter which TV station is that, of course, the privately owned are champions in this, sometimes, especially at night, such ads are maybe 3/4 of the total number...
What does that tell you?
I'd be thrilled to find out what you think, but to me, (ignore I am INSIDE this shit) this all says that generally, Bulgarians do not trust their doctors, no matter GP or specialists.
I hope you will agree with me that if people buy only the meds prescribed by the doctors, the TV ads about meds would be... pointless and meaningless, not to mention, a poor investment.
It seems people here just self-medicate.
I guess I'll have to research more about that, probably find some Euro-stats about health levels of the country compared to the others. I won't be the first to dig into that, I am sure...
There are many reasons for that, I think. Greece and Bulgaria have quite different history, culture, well, some traditions are common but even the languages are so, so different.
For instance, a friend of mine who lived many years in Greece told me that about 3/4 of Greeks go regularly to church services. In Bulgaria, that would be 1/10 if not even less. Probably not the best example, but my point is - Greek society is much more united than Bulgarian.
Now, I'd like to share my travel photos from Meteora, one of the holiest places in Greece, where I've been several times.
A magical place with stone monasteries build on top of huge cliffs, revealing amazing views and planting a desire to fly over the world...
