Greetings, friends of CCS. With this post, I begin a series recording observations of animal and plant specimens. We currently have several tools available that allow us to identify the species and classification taxon of the organisms we photograph.

Close Up

A 2X zoom shot with the camera in Macro mode. The snail was stopped on a lily pad. Details of the spiral of its shell can be seen. Given its size, I suspect it is not an adult.

The leaf looks beautiful, an almost artistic photo, where the colors in the center stand out. On the stone wall, I was able to compare its size with a pencil; here, it appears larger relative to the leaf, but it seems to have extended its body and is crawling.

Habitat and behavior.

IMG_20250821_171834_602.jpg
Snails love humidity, and they take advantage of the early morning or late afternoon hours to come out to feed. They eat plants; this garden snail likes flowers, leaves, and vegetables, so they become pests that must be taken care of.

They hide underground, among leaf litter, or in crevices of stones. When they sense a drop in temperature or rain, they come out of hiding.

Investigation

IMG_20250821_172012_089.jpg
Although I investigated using Google Lens, I also performed a search. I didn't discover any further details regarding its name and nomenclature. As I mentioned at the beginning, the resemblance is to a genus of land snails. This is how I described them in the Inaturalist post, genus Plagioptycha by @joslud.

There, with the help of other observers, in a few days they will propose names based on this snail's characteristics.

Wow, how cool is your way of describing the details! Just imagining a tiny snail with its spiral shell on a lotus leaf is artistic, let alone a macro shot that highlights the details. The photo certainly looks unique and interesting, especially with the pencil comparison—it gives a clear picture. Results like this are sure to be a treat for macro photography enthusiasts.
