Life on the prairie - a unique experience of one day and one night.
Hello dear friends,
I hope you all are doing well and spending a beautiful life with your loved ones. I wish you all happiness and peace.
Sometimes, in the midst of our busy lives and the chaos of the city, we feel the urge to escape and lose ourselves in the heart of nature. I had just such a unique experience last month when I visited a remote char (river island). Far from the concrete jungle of the city, this char seemed like a completely different world. Time felt slower there, life was simple, and the touch of nature was everywhere.
The char is surrounded by water on all sides. Small boats float on the river as if it is a village on water. For the people of the char, boats are the main means of transportation. Almost every household has a small boat—some big, some small. During the rainy season, these boats become their only way to move around. Whether it’s going to the market, school, or for medical help, everything depends on the boat.
The lives of the char people are very simple. They live in harmony with nature. Fishing in the river during the monsoon is one of their main sources of livelihood. In the early mornings, the fishermen head out to the river with their boats—sometimes they catch big fish, sometimes small—but whatever they get, they are happy. When the water level drops, they turn to farming—growing rice, vegetables, and different kinds of spices. Both men and women work together in the fields. I didn’t notice any difference between the work of men and women—everyone seemed equally connected to nature. They also raise ducks, chickens, goats, and cows to support their livelihood.
The people here are as simple as they are warm-hearted. I had the opportunity to stay for one day and one night. There is no greed, no excess of modernity. The joy of living close to nature is something I felt deeply every moment. After sunset, a wonderful calm covers the river. Everything becomes silent, with only the faint glow of a distant light somewhere. Standing under the open sky, feeling the gentle river breeze—it’s a feeling hard to put into words.
What I loved the most was the beauty of the water. During the day, the river sparkles under the sunlight, and in the evening, it looks like it’s wrapped in a silver blanket. Sometimes I could see the soft lights of fishermen’s boats far away. The way their lives blend with nature is truly extraordinary.
However, life here is also full of struggles. When the river rises during the monsoon, moving around becomes extremely difficult. Without boats, the entire village becomes isolated. Access to healthcare, education, or markets is a real challenge. Yet, they face everything with a smile.
This journey taught me many things. It showed me how to find happiness by adapting to nature. The joy found in small wishes and simple living is something the artificial life of the city cannot offer. The memories of that one day and one night in the char are still vivid in my heart.
I have already made plans to go back one day. Because that char, those people, and that nature have carved a permanent place in my heart.
Thanks all
