Chickpeas: A Nutritious and Delicious Food
Hello dear friends,
I hope you all are doing well and spending a beautiful life with your loved ones. I wish you all happiness and peace.
Chickpeas (locally known as Chola Boot) are one of the most familiar foods in our daily life. Especially during the holy month of Ramadan, chickpeas become an essential part of the iftar table in almost every household. Usually, they are boiled and fried, or cooked in different styles to make tasty dishes for iftar. But in reality, this amazing food should not be limited to Ramadan only – it deserves a place in our diet throughout the year.
Personally, I have a habit of soaking chickpeas at night and eating them raw in the morning or evening. If I don’t get time in the morning, I often carry them to my office and eat later. Chickpeas are one of my favorite foods, not only because of their taste but also for their high nutritional value.
Just yesterday evening, I tried a slightly different way of eating them. After soaking them the whole day, I boiled them for about two hours. Then I rinsed them well with cold water and mixed them with cucumber, tomato, onion, green chili, and a pinch of chotpoti masala. The result was truly delicious – a healthy salad that was refreshing and filling at the same time.
Chickpeas are a powerhouse of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. For vegetarians or those looking for alternative protein sources, chickpeas are an excellent choice.

My Personal Experience
Previously, I used to eat chickpeas mainly as fried or stir-fried dishes. But recently, I have shifted to a healthier version – chickpea salad. Since this method requires no oil, it’s much healthier yet equally delicious. The salad I prepared yesterday was so tasty that I have decided to continue eating it this way regularly.
Chickpeas are a versatile and highly nutritious food. They are delicious, filling, and packed with health benefits. While we often rely on junk food and fast food, a simple option like chickpeas can keep both body and mind healthy. Especially when prepared as a salad, it becomes one of the best choices for a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, chickpeas should not be reserved only for Ramadan – they deserve a permanent spot in our daily diet.
Thanks all
