The National Memorial is a symbol of our country's pride, a great monument to the struggle for independence. It is located in Savar, very close to Dhaka. One day I went to the National Memorial for a visit. I started my journey in the morning and reached there by noon. At the entrance, I saw a vast green courtyard, well-groomed gardens and a clean environment. The cool air around, walking along the high and low paths, I felt as if I had entered a different world. The main pillar of the memorial attracted the most attention. Seven pairs of triangular pillars stand in a sky-high position. These are symbols of seven important chapters of the Liberation War. When seen from a distance, it seems that the pillars are standing across each other, as if expressing our struggle for independence. When I got closer and stood, my chest was filled with respect and pride. It seemed that all the bloody memories of our history were hidden inside this pillar.
There was a peaceful atmosphere inside the premises. Many students, travelers and people with families had come to visit there. Some were taking pictures, some were standing silently. After entering, I paid my respects by placing flowers at the martyr's altar. It felt like I was expressing my deep gratitude to the brave martyrs of the Liberation War. It is because of their sacrifice that we are able to live in an independent country with our heads held high. The reservoir surrounding the memorial, the carpet of green grass and the gathering of trees made the whole place more beautiful. I sat and enjoyed the beauty of nature and the monument for a long time. It felt like coming here is not just a trip, but also a direct acquaintance with history. So I mingled with other people for some time and like them, I also kept seeing the beauty of the National Memorial. If you look at the photographs by the water, you can see that many people have come here and are sitting silently, while some are standing and some are busy taking photographs or videos.
Visiting the National Memorial is an unforgettable experience in my life. I have been coming here since I was a child and have been here several times. This is not just a trip, but a great opportunity to awaken respect for the Liberation War, patriotism and understand history up close. Every citizen should visit the National Memorial at least once in their life, because it is a priceless monument to our spirit of independence, the sacrifice of the brave martyrs and patriotism. So this place actually reminds me of the history of 1971. When the Pakistani occupying forces attacked Bangladesh and pounced on innocent and helpless people. This National Memorial brings to mind that day and reminds everyone of the terrible war of independence. Some come here to get an idea of history, some come to travel and some come to enjoy the beauty and find peace for some time. Just like them, I also come here and remember many things, take photographs and record videos to share with everyone. Anyway, I spent many beautiful moments in this vast area that day.
