The Message In The Sand
The alarm clock went off. He turned it off and wanted to sleep. But, he could not. He barely had any time to sleep. It is his last day of vacation and he needs to travel back to his home town the next day. His mind will not let go, it keeps going back to the same place where he was yesterday. He tried to think of other things, he tried plan his time for next day. But, all the attempts fails to shift the focus elsewhere.
Two days before his travel. He woke up, the room was clean and organized. All his stuff are in place, as he does not have much time on his vacation. The window was open, and the cool breezes of air was coming inside the room with the sunlight. Making the room look like somewhere prepared for a photoshoot. It feels as good as it looks. It is a beautiful day he said.
He got up, made himself a light breakfast. A toasted slice of bread with jam and honey on top, and a cup of black tea. A breakfast that he can have while going to the beach. He walked on the sidewalk, surrounded by the green and yellow tree leaves. There was not much traffic and it was a two minute walk till the beach. He reached there. Although, he has been there for a week. But, it seems he cannot have enough of walking barefoot on that brown sand, looking at the beach and hearing the sound of waves breaking at shores.
He saw a peace of paper buried under the sand. He dug a bit and found that it was a letter that starts with Dear Emma. He was shocked and cannot tell the reason behind it. He took a quick look to both sides and returned it. It felt like, he did not want anything to do with it. He continued walking. But, pushing down his curiosity until he left the beach for lunch. He had lunch. But, could not stop thinking about those questions. How did the letter get there? Who dropped it? Was I supposed to do something with it?
Something inside was burning with curiosity, eager to uncover what is in that letter. He went back to the beach, walking quickly and looking around for that letter. It was the same place that he left. He took it out and starts to read it. It starts with: "I'm going away on this ship to meet with the doctor for the appointment that I have told you about. I have been informed yesterday that, he will determine how many appointments I have to attend. It might be a long time before I return. I gave this letter to your friend .... with a small gift for your birthday next week."
He noticed that this time, so many things were crossed out from the letter. He cannot remember if it was like that the last time or not. He realized that it is either like that, or the person who left it came back to cross things and left it at the same place.
