If there is one person who influenced my professional life it was Florence Nightingale. When I was a fifth grader, my older brother gave me my first book. The book was about Florence's life, and when I read it I was drawn to the work she did.
She, in her adult life, began to help the war wounded of her time. Seeing the needs that these wounded were going through in their critical period. She began to implement the improvements that a wounded person needed to improve their clinical picture. Seeing that this worked, his battle against the world began.

She exerted much influence with her participation to the point that she was the precursor of the installation of the professionalization of nursing as a student preparation institute.
She fought in a world where women were given power only in the family sphere, as wives and mothers. She dedicated her life to the care of patients in hospitals. To the point that she refused marriage proposals, not wanting obstacles in her life that would separate her from her priorities.
So it was that her influence in my life made my first profession to be a nurse. From there, I have dedicated my life to continue growing as a health professional. Every May 12 is celebrated in the world, the day of the nurse, taking Florence's birthday.
The Let's talk about... contest in its first week had 9 participants. I am grateful for their posts, all with their personal touch. With beautiful photographs that they shared. Some posts with your personal reflections very nice to the reader. Many excellent comments and hopefully the next ones will be better, as they will join the thread of a comment.

Si hay una persona que influyó en mi vida, fue Florence Nightingale. Cuando yo era una estudiante de Quinto grado mi hermano mayor, me regaló mi primer libro. El libro trata sobre la vida de Florencia, cuando lo leí me sentí atraída a esa labor que ella desempeñaba.
Ella, en su vida de adulto, comenzó a ayudar a los heridos de Guerra de su época. Viendo por las necesidades que estos heridos atravesaban en su período más crítico. Ella comenzó a implementar las mejoras que un herido necesitaba dentro del hospital para mejorar su cuadro clínico. Viendo que esto le daba resultado su batalla contra el mundo empezó.
Ejerció mucha influencia con su participación hasta el punto que fue la precursora de la instalación de la profesionalización de la enfermería cómo instituto de preparación estudiantil.
Luchó en un mundo que a la mujer se le daba poder solamente en el ámbito familiar, como esposa y madre. Su vida la dedicó al cuidado de los pacientes en los hospitales. Hasta el punto que rechazó las proposiciones de matrimonio, por no querer obstáculos en su vida, que la separaran de sus prioridades.
Así fue que su influencia en mi vida hizo que mi primera profesión sea la de ser enfermera. Desde allí he dedicado mi vida a seguir creciendo cómo profesional de la salud. Todos los 12 de mayo se celebra en el mundo, el día de la enfermera, tomando el día de nacimiento de Florence.
El concurso de "hablemos sobre…" en su primera semana tuvo 9 participantes. Estoy agradecida por sus publicaciones, todas con su toque personal. Con hermosas fotografías que compartieron. Algunas publicaciones con sus reflexiones personales muy agradables al lector. Muchos comentarios excelentes y esperamos que los próximos sean mejores, ya que se unirán al hilo de un comentario.

Esta semana hablemos sobre quien fué la persona que te inspiró a ser lo que hoy eres, ya sea cómo madre, padre, hija o hijo, profesional, comerciante, trabajador independiente, escritor, locutor, educador de sus hijos en casa, vendedora de productos artesanales, etc.

Acabo de leer su dedicatoria a su hermana. Las cosas de la vida. Yo comencé a los 15 años a estudiar enfermería en la escuela que estudió su hermana. Formé parte de la última promoción de la escuela técnica de enfermería Dr: "Luis Razetti" de Barcelona.
Me mantuve mis estudios allí gracias a las becas que me dieron durante dos años debido a mis notas.
La diferencia es que trabajé en muchos hospitales. De allí nació mi interés por seguir estudiando para perfeccionar los conocimientos. Gracias a la enfermería pude pagar mis estudios superiores.
Comparto lo que afirma al final de su meditación. Tenemos que seguir incentivando a los nuevos profesionales de la salud a que tengan más empatía con el enfermo. A que no le tengan miedo a tocarlos, a compartir con ellos sus dolencias. Es algo por lo que he luchado y seguiré luchando mientras pueda. Siempre que he dado clases acerca de mis conocimientos en ultrasonido aprovecho de hablar sobre el amor al prójimo, llamado paciente, en mi caso.

En realidad son clientes. Esa es la palabra que la gente utiliza con nosotros. La gente paga por un servicio y espera que se le ayude adecuada y respetuosamente o que se le remita a alguien con conocimientos más específicos. Por desgracia, para muchos de los que trabajan con personas, el amor por las personas ya no existe. Las residencias de ancianos son un ejemplo flagrante de ello. Degradan al ser humano y eso incluye a las personas discapacitadas y a los niños acogidos.

In a private health care center my ultrasound studies can cost the patient $50 and here where I actually work they cost $10. I am the same doctor here and there. I give the same care here as I do there. The difference is that over there they pay me and here I own it.
Here there is no need to treat anyone badly, if you do it out of vocation.
Es cierto lo que afirmas sobre que la tendencia a tratar bien al paciente está cada vez más disminuida.
En mi país tenemos lugares públicos de atención gratuito al paciente además de los centros que son dispensadores de salud si se paga el servicio.
Yo me formé en un hospital de servicio gratuito, aún existen 3 hospitales de estos en donde yo vivo. Se sigue atendiendo a los enfermos por amor, porque el salario al trabajo de los empleados públicos, pagados por entes gubernamentales, está muy por debajo de sueldos dignos. Solo les alcanza para pagar sus tarifas del transporte público. Deben trabajar en centros de salud pagos para poder completar su dinero de la cesta básica. No me refiero a mis colegas médicos sino al resto de los trabajadores.
En una centro de atención de salud privado mis estudios de ultrasonido pueden costar al paciente 50$ y aquí en donde realmente trabajo cuestan 10$. Soy el mismo médico aquí y allá. Doy la misma atención aquí que allá. La diferencia es que allá me pagan ellos y aquí yo soy la dueña.
Aquí no hay necesidad de atender mal a nadie, si lo haces por vocación.

I think that people who work caring for the elderly do a good job, the saddest problem is the absence of family members,Some people rarely visit their loved ones. I can only imagine how they feel seeing their children's indifference. They worked almost their entire lives to raise them, and now that they need affection, all they receive is help for a nursing home. It's a sad reality.
What I saw a few months ago.. how the elderly were treated by the "care" takers I wouldn't label as "a good job". They robbed their wallets, bought fish on the market, the fat arsed ate as if they never had food before while the elderly were sitting in the wheelchairs in the cold, early in the morning in the fog, all they had was a very thin towel on their shoulders. No coat nothing. One elderly man asked for his fish. You better not know what that person said. BTW they all stood around a table, stuffing themselves and while the elderly stood in the chairs watching their backs.
Being treated like that I find shameful and if I say shameful it's way kinder than I have in mind.

Eres muy amable. En esos tiempos muchas compañeras enfermeras pudieron seguir estudiando. Hoy tengo muchas de mis colegas enfermeras de esos tiempos, que son abogadas, odontólogos, educadoras, y no recuerdo más.

Sounds like a wise decision. I know I never knew what I wanted to be for the rest of my life. In a way children still have to around the age of 11 (I was 11, an early student). It was hard for me to say no one inspired me. And when I see contest like this talking about who inspired you. I always think of what to write and at the end of the day I will not participate in the contest because I don't have tangible things to say about who inspired me.
What I can recall is motherly and fathers advice. Talking about inspiration I don't think I have or could it be I have and I don't know?.
I wish I had someone who inspired me which I would have love to always reflect on. This is a nice contest I would really love to participate.

I never been a big fan or anyone and although I cherish words, it's not that I feel they inspired me to instruct myself.
I have determined to put down my thoughts even though no one inspired me. I just learnt from @lupega and I have engaged on his post about how I am inspired to write on this contest. Surely like contest like this
I did the same with my other account. The most original entries are those of people who think in a different way and write about what they like or want to share. Never stay away from a contest, no matter what they ask. Just see it a as prompt. You can use it to write about or write something else and somehow involve the line/question.
