INTRODUCTION

Hola mis compañeras steemians, it's Rasheed the activist here to bring to you another societal menace which is slowly eating us up. Below I'm going to be looking at racial and gender equality as these are the two main things people get discriminated against. There are alot others but today we would be looking at these two. Now let's get right to it.

Inequality based on gender ( Men vs Women)

As a student in the University who hasn't gone to any other part of the world, I'm going to be using my experiences in my country. A 60 year old country (since independence) still revolving around the ideology that women deserve to be confined to house chores and the kitchen is a sad thing to see but that's the reality. In various parts of the world and even Nigeria, alot of women have actually made me believe that what a man can do a woman can do better. There are alot of wonderful achievements which women have accomplished which includes

  • Grace Hopper (1906-1992): She innovated the first computer language compiler and also co-invented the COBOL computer language.
  • Patricia Era Bath (1942-2019): she invented the Laserphaco probe which is a medical device used to remove cataracts from the eye which could cause blindness. She also received patent right for this invention.
  • Ruth Handler (1916-2002): inventor of the barbie doll. Together with her husband, they founded the mattel the world's largest toy factory.
  • Stephanie Kwolek : She invented kevlar which is used in making bullet proof jackets.
  • Josephine Cochrane : Created the dishwasher which most of us use in our houses.
  • Mary slessor: A scottish missionary sent to Nigeria stopped the killing of twins and also helped us alot in the past during the outbreak of chicken pox and she took care of alot of children. When she died she was given a great burial, her grave was visited by Queen Elizabeth and we Nigerians refer to her as mother of all the people.

There are many more great feats achieved by women especially fashion and clothing wise. I personally believe if they weren't looked down on the world would be a better place. In Nigeria, alot of women are forced to be house wives when they could be out there achieving great things. Now because of this alot of Nigerian women have given up and become lazy. Some just dropout of school for marriage then become slaves in their own homes. In various parts of the world women can be whatever they want to be from presidents down to founder of multimillion dollar companies and this how it's supposed to be everywhere. I personally believe God created women to help man and not as a lesser being. Please let us try to refrain from such trivial beliefs because women deserve the same rights as we do.

Inequality based on Race ( Asian, White, Black, Australoid)

At an early stage in my life I got to find out that racism was actually a thing. At first I was thinking, why would colour/ texture of skin cause such chaos but then I again I said it's not possible that maybe the person who told me about it must have been wrong but now that I know it's actually the colour/ texture of skin it saddens my heart. I just wonder what our creator wherever he is would think of his creations fighting each other simply because of skin type. What is soo hard about treating each other like equal beings under one creator.

In Nigeria although we might not notice, we are actually really racist even to our own kind. If a Nigerian director or manager were to see a white man or woman applying for a job under them, there is an 85% chance that he will pick them over anyone else without even the qualifications. Many of us have this local mentality that any foreigner is smart and will be better fitted for the job. We aren't even confident in our own skin now we are applying whitening agents all of which are sad. I did alot digging and found out how deep and large racism was in America and in the past and it was even worse than I imagined. They didn't have the rights to white collar jobs, even on the bus they had to stand up for at white person who got in to sit down. I don't think animals were this wicked to one another and although it's said to have reduced, racism is still rampant around the world. There definitely are many more serious racial cases around the world but it would only pain me more to keep talking about them.

CONCLUSION

No man is an island, we were sent here to enjoy ourselves and get through this journey called life together. We were made to multiply and spread across the world to be interdependent and not to be separated. I hope we can all see eye to eye on this matter and from the little changes we make the world as a whole would change. Thanks for reading

Equality is of no doubt s very good concept to embrace. We all need to look out for one another and not make others feel Inferior towards us. Thank you for this beautiful piece of writing.

We're One no matter where we come from, the skin color and other wise, we all are from one parent, one origin - Adam and Eve. We were all Created in God's image, whether Man or women, black or white. Imperfection is our problem, but a time is coming when all will be one again, where there will be no racism again. A time when we will truly love like God whose image we were created.

Sure equally is the best because partiality spoils a family peace

Equality must be observed between men and women in this world! That's why in the Political system and banking system, women are now dominating in the aforementioned systems! Women are not marginalized anymore in this current era of the world. This is a very nice post and educating also!!

Inequality has so far been a problem at all tiers of our society. An instance where a security man is oppressing a fellow citizen in support of a white man in an African country just because he is rich (this happened in a shopping mall) shows that this problem has not even been fully understood. But I believe the more we talk about it, the more people become engaged in finding solutions. Very well constricted post, especially talking about the marginalized in our society Our Women.
