it wasn't really an 'exploit'.... they were just depending on mobile numbers being a good choke point for stopping one guy from making zillions of accounts, and there are places in the world where its mad easy to get mass mobile numbers for free or nearly free.
Oh. Lame.
@biophil I could get 8 accounts with one number by putting the submissions on one block.. then when I reported that one and it got fixed I found another one.. where you could submit 8 SMS to the same number then confirm them all.. one exploit after another. They all seem fixed now but many foreign countries and I hear San Francisco are all blocked off.
