A Glimpse of the Al-Hikmah Cunda Mosque
Al-Hikmah Cunda Mosque was built in 1956 and has an area of about 2,800 m². In terms of architecture, this mosque is fairly ordinary.
But what makes this mosque interesting is its many poles. With this many pillars, the atmosphere in the mosque becomes narrower.
In terms of style and external architecture, Al-Hikmah Cunda Mosque almost resembles the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque in Banda Aceh. From the outside we cannot notice the dome of the mosque because of its location in the city center and is covered with surrounding buildings.
If you look carefully, the position of the mosque building is slightly inclined to the left. This is because it adjusts to the Qibla direction. This mosque is also one of the mosques visited by many people both from the local area and from outside the city because it is located on the edge of the highway, so many people stop by to pray and take a break.
Al-Hikmah Cunda Mosque is indeed a comfortable and shady place to rest. The beautiful and cool area around the mosque adds to the comfort for visitors.
Mosque facilities and atmosphere
This mosque has a fairly large vehicle parking lot. Two-wheeled vehicles are parked specifically in the area to the right of the mosque while four-wheeled vehicles have a special parking lot at the back of the mosque.
The mosque also has a small hall or hut for women who are absent, where they can sit and take shelter. This shows the mosque's concern for the comfort of all worshipers.

The ablution area in this mosque uses grayish tiles. The use of gray tiles gives a clean and modern impression, and does not easily look dirty. The wudu area in this mosque is quite spacious, with the men's area separated from the women's area. There are dozens of taps for wudu that make it easier for worshipers, especially when the mosque is crowded.
Inside the mosque, the atmosphere is quite spacious and cool because the mosque does not have special doors, so the wind can blow inside. The mihrab does not stand out like other mosques, but is quite simple and painted plain white. There are no excessive calligraphic carvings.
Although there are ornaments and calligraphy around the mihrab, they are all painted in white so that they do not show a more luxurious and lively calligraphic impression.

The pulpit is also quite simple with small carved wooden motifs. On the inner dome of the mosque, there are not too many calligraphic designs, but it has been painted quite beautifully. The color uses a combination of yellow and green colors that do not contrast with the all-white color of the mosque walls. What is different about this mosque is that the floor uses red ceramic tiles.
Programs at the Mosque
Every night after Maghrib prayer, there is a recitation program open to the public that focuses on fiqh, tawhid, and tasawwuf. The recitation is led by local religious leaders.
During Ramadan, especially the last 10 nights, the mosque remains open for anyone who wants to do itikaf (silence, dhikr and worship) in the mosque.
Every Friday and the night before the tarawih prayers, the mosque management also submits a report on the mosque's financial balance, which totaled 17,000,000 IDR or around 7918 Steem, (Calculated based on Steem price on Sunday, March 30, 2025).
This amount is sufficient for all operational activities of the mosque and shows the active participation of the local community in working together to donate money for the construction and operation of the mosque.
Overall, Al-Hikmah Cunda Mosque is clean, cozy and simple, but has its own uniqueness.
