Art Explained By A Writer: The Land Baby (1909)

The Landbaby (1909)

“Hello, little girl, do you have a moment? Is your mother around?”

“Why?”

“Oh, no reason. I just wanted someone to talk to. I often feel alone.”

“Sorry, but I’m not allowed to talk to strangers. If my dad finds out, he’ll be furious. He says there are lots of weird people in the world—creeps. Are you a creep?”

“Why would you think that?”

“Because you’re naked.”

“But so are you.”

“Yes, but I’m a child, and I need the sun. Grandma says it’s for vitamin D. I was really sick, and—”

The child claps a hand over her mouth, startled.

“You look a bit… green. Is that normal? And I think you have a fish tail,” the little girl blurts out.

The mermaid, who’s developing a hunch from lurking near the shore for so long, is growing impatient.

“What a rude child!” she snaps, glaring.

“Well, it’s true! You should look in a mirror—then you’d see I’m right. And now I have to go; I can hear my dad calling. Fish creature!”

And just like that, the little land baby is gone.

The fish creature would have loved to snatch her up, adding her to the collection of land babies she’s lured into the sea over the past fifteen years.

So, if you’re a child—and not the sharpest tool in the shed—take my advice: Never talk to strangers. Especially not if they suddenly act nice, offering you lollies or balloons, or if they say there are kittens or bunnies nearby that you can pet… or if they have a fish tail.

It is one of the ways to trap innocent beings such as children, offering them gifts, toys, animals. How many stories I have not read about kidnappings and deaths of children that after their kidnappers tell them that they have a small wounded animal or show them a small animal and then comes the fatality.

They trap them through the innocence, purity and love of a child.

Thank you very much.

Thank you very much

Also popular is telling the child the parent is ill and they come to pick it up and the teachers don't care, just give the child away with a stranger. These people frewuently hang around in the area of schools. They know exactly which child they should talk to. Kidnapping, child traffickong is big business and governments know about it.

What you say is happening in these regions. Children disappearing after leaving school. Children who are snatched from their mothers' hands, their arms full of packages or bags. Older people who go with their grandchildren, they are knocked down and their children are taken away.
It is a whole art of theft and kidnapping of children learned by the criminals.

(Never talk to strangers) It's a phrase kids hear over and over again lately.
The current situation with children is regrettable. I guess if someone saw a naked girl, they wouldn't think of covering her up. Quite the opposite. They're bastards.
I got a vasectomy. I don't want to be a father. This world is too cruel to innocent beings like children.

I remember in my childhood they said not to walk through the park (it wasn't a real park, more like grass and some trees next to the drinking water cleaning station) because there was a "child lurer" (the translator made: child molester out of it).

Creepy people always existed and the: Don't talk to strangers, don't take candies from strangers, don't go have a look at little bunnies, kittens, you name it is all what I was raised with. I can't recall it made me afraid outside but it's a fact everyone said it and it left children with the question: who to ask for help if in need?

I agree that the world we live in, our countries changed a lot and I don't see that rosy future. The molesting increases and with us it looks as if the government and churches are involved.
Child abuse also seems to be normal among sports coaches and a few other professions, like teachers and health workers.

More and more think like you. If you can't play outside, receive vaccination after vaccination, are bullied and sent to fight some spoiled people their wars all that is left is stress and fear.

This topic is a way of working for some, I DO NOT understand how a person can sleep in peace when he hurts another, maybe I am an idiot but I would NOT be capable, when I do not like something I walk away and it is forever including people.
You don't know much about me, but I'll tell you that I looked at the mermaid and then I looked at the girl and I thought about putting something on her to cover her up. Maybe you won't believe me, but that's what I thought.

I agree with you that children shouldn't be left alone but 50 years ago it was normal they walked alone to school or travelled by train. Today they can not even play on the street in front of the own home.

Thank you very much for your support.
I wish you a happy weekend.

Image... Once humans walked around naked or covered against the cold. Next we took photos of naked babies and toddlers an no one had second thoughts. Today we all tiptoe around, we cover ourselves from head to toe (lack of vitamin D and depressions as a result) and still it's not good enough. So there are rules not to photigraph peoole and children. It's EU rule, schools have to ask permission and still it isn't safe.
On the other hand I say people sharing their entire lives, children included on the internet which makes me wonder if we are the only ones with kidnappers, child traffickers?

Me encantó leerte.
