My Diary Game: INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH NO STEEZE—1/10/2025.
Shot from Samsung - After the Fresh Anointing service
Dear Steemians, Welcome to a new month of unusual lifting of our God. May this new month bring you happiness and a a fruitful life in Jesus Christ's name. AMEN21X.
On 1st October 1960, Nigeria became an independent state, yesterday making it 65 years. Although the country is struggling in many areas, which could be blamed on bad leadership or a pro-colonial government still influencing us, it is worthy of note that there are significant achievements in our country. The president in his speech assured the citizens that “the worst is over.” Does it mean that the cry of the masses is heard, or is he ready to first and foremost tackle insecurities and work on the areas affecting the poor economy of Nigeria? Maybe fuel prices and essential commodities will be addressed to their nearest minimum.
It is difficult for a common man to survive in the country. Inflation has eaten up the fabric of the economy; only the big men and women boast enough, while others are feeding from hand to mouth. Instead of our politicians being particular about the plight of the citizens, they are talking about the 2027 elections. How will the common man survive 2026 to come and vote in 2027? A question every meaning-meaning Nigerian should ask himself or herself and prepare to choose and vote wisely.
THE MORNING OF 1ST OCTOBER
Very early in the morning, we gathered in for the Fresh Anointing service, which took us to 7:17am. We prayed again and again for families and the nation.
There was nothing to make the day as special as it used to be.
The president released a memo that there should be no gathering nationwide in stadiums, due to insecurities.
There was a blackout yesterday; electricity was restored at about 10:05pm. Many were not the live broadcasts of the Presidential Villa.
The usual busy day of 1st October turned dry. The streets were pretty empty, as it was a public holiday and no one was at the stadium; people rather stayed indoors doing domestic chores. I guessed only markets had people in their numbers.

THAT AFTERNOON OF 1ST OCTOBER
Everywhere was calm and boring at the same time. People who were not aware of the cancellation of going to the stadium were asking about what is happening to Nigeria and her independence celebrations.
The afternoon was so frustrating, as there was no electricity to power up phones and other appliances to entertain people. Around 2pm, I managed my phone battery to see what was going on online. The big news came from PHCED, the management of electricity, releasing a notification on the outage and with assurance of restoring it as soon as possible.
At this point, you have to minimise the use of your phone to save battery for calls.
IN THE EVENING
I left the house to assist my friend who was looking for a single-room apartment down Nwaniba Road, Uyo. It was an exciting moment, firstly to feel the environment, and secondly we found the house and were able to make payment immediately, as house hunting is difficult these days. I also went to our church at 73 Wellington Bassey Way to get a package from my pastor, and spent time there until nightfall.
Returning home, I was still expecting light to watch the the Champions League matches, but it was restored very late. I slept after having dinner.

SUMMARY OF THE DAY
The Independence Day was different from other years, following the announcement that children would not be going to the stadium. From morning until evening, the environment was not lively or feeling like it should, due to the day, adding to the power outage. The happiness of yesterday was when my friend found an apartment and paid for the rent immediately.
LESSONS OF THE DAY
- Be open to change—things are not going to be as usual every time.
- Do not stop praying for Nigeria; - we are yet to enjoy our independence with all the resources God has blessed us with.
As a Nigerian, share your opinion about 1st October, 2025.
