Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 10/03/18> " Tired Of The Same Old Shit? "

I am seeing...

As the November election day draws closer I am seeing more campaign signs being put up as I travel south Texas for those elections. Every possible position in local, state and federal government seems to up for election with the exception of the office of president of the United States.

How I intend...

I have made it clear here in the Daily Dose how I intend to vote this November Election Day and it is a very simple strategy, I will vote for no incumbents holding a current office. Offices that don’t have an incumbent running I will vote for the person I see as most fit for office regardless of political party. I am basically “tired of the same old shit” and that is exactly what we get by voting incumbents back into office.

Back when I...

Back when I was a teenager the family traveled over to the Carolina's for a vacation, and while I can’t remember if it was in North or South Carolina, where I came across what would become my favorite T shirt of my teenage years it was from that trip.

Plain old white...

The shirt was just a plain old white T shirt and was printed in red ink and was from a business named “Stereo World.” What made that shirt so special to me was the message that was printed on it.

In big bold...

The front of the T shirt, in big bold lettering, asked the question “Tired Of The Same Old Shit?” and below the question was a pair of hands holding a pile of shit that had waving lines giving the effect of the smell coming off of the pile. The back of the T shirt said “Visit Stereo World” and had the address and phone number for the business below the name just like you would see in Yellow Pages little quarter page advertisements.

You just didn't see...

Back then you just didn’t see the word “shit” used in advertising but it clearly was used to draw attention to the fact that their store was different then other places that just sold stereos. Honestly, I don’t think you see the word “shit” used in advertising much even today if ever, even though we have laws that say advertising should be truthful.

There are plenty of things I could think of where shit would be a truthful description and could be followed with, “but it is cheap when it comes to the price.”

I am thinking...

I am thinking about having some shirts printed for this election cycle that would have the same front as that old Stereo World shirt that I got on that trip. The back would read, “Vote for the Challenger this election.” or “Don’t Vote for the Incumbent this election.”

But I can’t decide which saying I like best for the back of the shirt. So that is where you readers come in; which of the two do you like? Can you come up with a better line for the backside of the shirt?

I wish I had...

I wished I had thought of this back during primary season so I could have had all spring and summer to wear it; but that is how it goes sometimes. I don’t know how much these “one off” type of shirts cost to get made but I will soon find out. The expensive part I am sure is the artwork and the metal plates that are used in screen printing but those do last forever if you take care of them.

Back when I...

I still have the plates from back when I was doing horse shoeing and it had a picture of the blacksmith holding up the back leg of the horse putting a shoe on it and the horse’s head and neck turned, fixing to bite the blacksmith on his ass.

Customers loved those...

The customers loved those T shirts that I would give them and they never did lose my phone number since it was printed on them as well. It was always nice too when I would go to a horse show and see a bunch of my customers wearing them just walking around the grounds of the shows.

I remember only one...

Back then I was one of the higher priced horse shoers but people gladly paid extra because I gave the shirts out only to customers and each time I put a new set of shoes on the horse. I remember only one lady that questioned me on why I charged so much more than the other guys doing the same work in my area. When she asked that question I promptly replied, “they know what their work is worth.”

I don’t know that she actually got what I meant with that reply because she had kind of puzzled look on her face. She didn’t ask any more questions about my pricing and I had her for a customer until I had to give up that line of work due to my back injury.

Truth in advertising...

Anyway, times a wasting and I don’t need to keep you any longer; that is all I have for this edition; just my thought of how to spread my idea for this election cycle using truth in advertising; which is really unheard of in politics.
Until next time,

Truth in politics? Does such a thing even exist anymore? :D I do hope however that you will make a shirt and take a photo of yourself in it to show us ;)

even though we have laws that say advertising should be truthful.

I got a good chuckle out of this.

How about “Vote out all the incumbents”?

If not, I like the second choice. “Challenger” just makes me think of a car. Or a space shuttle.

Yes, challenger doesn't seem to work well for the shirt, bastards , like Tom suggested works really good.

I upvoted your post.

I like "Throw the Bastards Out" for the back. It was a Presidental Campaign Slogan from just before the Civil War. People that think our politics couldn't get any worse need to check the 30 years before the war.

Mr. David Crockett went to Texas because he was so disgusted with politics. Most don't know he was the leading candidate to replace Andrew Jackson but the machine chewed him up and spit him out. Worked out good for Texas.

Sources meant nothing, you would just print what ever story you felt like. It was just awful, and intensely personal. We aren't even close.

I've got a shirt from Woot that I got a few years back that says "Vote No On Yes". I wear it some this time of year...

I have a shirt from JSR (Jack Shit Racing) and one from Head Products that were both banned from public by the NHRA. Jim Head (made damn fine parts) had some variation of "Give me Head until I'm Dead" on them every year.

A good farrier is like your doctor. You don't even think about asking how much, just how soon.

I've gotten my voter's pamphlet, I'll make sure I do my part to throw the bastards out. With two exceptions in my case. County commissioner and one of my state Representatives are solid. Everybody else needs the door.

Thanks for another wonderful post! Always appreciated.

"Sources meant nothing, you would just print what ever story you felt like.", that sounds like today's news reporting too.
Form what I have seen so far I like you slogan for the back of the shirt best.
I remember those shirts from Head Racing Products can't say I ever saw the Jack Shit Racing ones though.
I haven't made my voter guide yet but it won't take me ten minutes to do. Most all of our people running for office are incumbents with the exception of one race that I know of.
Thanks for the support and the slogan. If I remember right, that was the slogan for the Foco-Loco party.

Truth in politics is much like an honest lawyer. Few and far between if at all. The T-shirt is a good way to get across a point. The second slogan is probably the best. Anymore, I just don't get involved in politics since nothing changes. Everyone has great ideas and lots of plans for doing thing differently, but when they get elected it is the same pile of 💩 as the last guy. (SSDD).

Good comparison on truth in politics and honest lawyers, neither exist as far as I can tell. I think I might be leaning for big Tom's slogan at this point. But I appreciate your opinion on it as well.

Sounds like a cool idea. They shouldnt be that much. My buddy and i had some shirts we had printed for our business and they were like $3 each online. I also got some from a local store and they weren't much.

I want the pile of shit on it though and not just the wording, screen printing may have changed from way back when I last had shirts made so computers probably have brought the cost way down. I had to have an artist draw the picture I wanted and then a metal shop had to cut it out for the screen print shop so they could have the stencil.
Thanks for the info. Glad you also liked the idea.
I don't recognize your name as being a regular reader of the Daily Dose so thanks for reading and commenting, very much appreciated.

Man the metal is awesome, another great story :). I found you through my friend @girlbeforemirror :)

Oh okay, I just recently met her on here myself. She has the same condition that my wife and three of our children have known as EDS. With the name you go by, @weirdheadaches, I have to ask, are you also one of the people who suffer for that condition? It isn't very a common condition, but weird headaches is something that seems to go along with that condition so I thought the name might have something to do with that.

Im sorry to hear that. I suffer but not from that condition.

I think I would put: "Out with the old... vote in someone new", or to give it a festive theme, "Ring out the old... Bring in someone new". Actually I like @bigtom13"s slogan... haha :)

I am thinking Big Tom has nailed it, that works pretty darn well at conveying the message.

Love this @sultnpapper! I anxiously await your tshirt! I'm sure it will be a doozy. Love your passion and enthusiasm...new blood is definitely needed :)

Glad you liked it, now I have to get on the ball and get one made before it is too late.

You were a ferrier? That is backbreaking work, especially with the big horses. Cool t-shirt idea. I sure hope the upcoming election shakes things up in a good way.

In Texas we spell it with an "a", farrier. I always preferred horse shoer, farrier just has a bad ring to it. Yes, I was. I started helping when I was 14 , the neighbor was a shoer. He taught me how to turn shoes from flat bar stock and by the time I got out of high school I was already shoeing horses but I went to Oklahoma to a shoeing school there and learned all the book work and the finer points of shoeing and making shoes.
After a year in school I started out just shoeing part time and then after I had a pretty good client base I went full time shoeing.
I did it full time for four years and ended up tearing the nerve center in my lower back. I was just a little to tall for that line of work. So I had to give it up, had I just stayed doing it part time I probably would have been able to do it a lot longer, but 10 to 12 hours a day being bent over was just to much strain on the back.
The funniest thing about shoeing was when I went to school. I am ambidextrous and could nail shoes with either hand, so the first horse I was shoeing at the school the instructor was watching me and I was working on the hind legs, he about flipped out when he saw me switch hands and keep nailing. He said, "Whoa, whoa, you can't do that!!!"
I said, "Do what?" and he said "Nail with both hands."
I asked him if there was a law against it and he said no. So I said then I'll just keep doing it. He told me that in his twenty plus years of teaching shoeing he never had anyone who could nail with either hand, so I felt kind of special in that regard.
Glad you liked the shirt idea, now I have to see how quickly I can come up with some art work and get one made before time runs out. Thanks for all your support of the Daily Dose.
