According to history, on March 15, 1521 when Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese navigator who navigates in the Philippines and worked for the King of Spain, together with his men and arrived in Cebu. Right in this place, he met and befriended Rajah Humabon - the chieftain of Cebu, and Magellan convinced Humabon and his wife Queen Juana and the native people to accept and baptized with christianity.

And to commemorate such an important event in spreading-out the Roman Catholic faith in the Philippines, Ferdinand Magellan planted a wooden cross in the soil on April 14, 1521 on this Cebu’s shore and since then the site was been well-known as the Magellan’s Cross. Inwhich the cross back, then was believe as to have a miraculous healing power, so the people started to take pieces of it until it was began to fall apart. Which the LGU who was aware of the incident, built another wooden cross made of tindalo wood just to replace the original cross and protects it.

However, it was rumored that the cross encase inside the tindalo wood is nothing but a replica planted there by the Spaniards who came after Magellan’s death and the original one was said to have been stolen or destroyed after Magellan has passed away. And the paintings on the ceiling represents the historical moment when Ferdinand Magellan introduced christianity to the Cebuanos in the year 1521. Which it also illustrates the baptism of Rajah Humabon and his subordinates in symbolizing the spreading-out of the Roman Catholic faith.

So, how to get this place? Best example and likes in my case, if you're coming from Lapu-lapu City and where Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) also takes place, I am going to ride a public utility bus (PUB) with a route of Mactan to Parkmall with a fare of (0.63 US$), then ride again with PUB route Parkmall to Colon with a fare of (0.44 US$) and drop-off in Manalili street. But if you ride with your private vehicle, ask your driver to drop-off at Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, so from there, Magellan's Cross is within a walking distance of 10 minutes or if you can also join with a tour guide just for a more convenient way and to reach this place.

The landmark is free, which you do not need to pay any entrance fee but if you want to light a candles, then there are local vendors which you can buy a candle, that cost (0.175 US$) per piece and put it into the bottom part of the cross. Infact, many local and international tourists have regularly visited the cross.
