Exploring Pheradi Majus (Roman Ruins)
The grand arch of Pheradi Majus behind me.
Hello Steemians,
Today I want to share with you a quick visit to Pheradi Majus, an ancient Roman city located near Sidi Khalifa, Bouficha, Sousse.
Though less known than sites like Carthage or Dougga, Pheradi Majus offers a glimpse into Tunisia deep history through its ruins, mosaics, and monumental arches.
The best part? Entry is free, making it an easy and accessible stop for anyone interested in exploring Tunisia heritage.
Carved Stones with Ancient Texts
The site is scattered with stones engraved with Latin inscriptions. These old carvings feel like whispers from the past, still surviving centuries later.

Mosaic Fragment
Among the ruins, I spotted a beautiful piece of mosaic. Though partly damaged, its patterns still show the Roman artistry that once decorated villas and temples here.

The Great Arch
One of the highlights of Pheradi Majus is its large Roman arch. Standing tall among the ruins, it is a reminder of the city’s former grandeur.

Walking Between Ruins
The ruins cover a wide area with scattered rocks, walls, and remains of structures. Walking here feels like stepping into another era.

Behind the Arch
Of course, I had to take a photo front the iconic arch a perfect spot to imagine what life here was like centuries ago.

Standing on History
Finally, I stood on part of the arch itself. Touching the stones, I could feel the weight of time and history still present in this quiet site.

Final Thoughts
Though my visit was short, Pheradi Majus left a strong impression on me. The carvings, mosaics, and monumental arch all tell the story of a once thriving Roman city that time has slowly covered with silence.
Tunisia is full of hidden archaeological gems like this one, waiting to be discovered.
