Exploring Bulgaria, as it joins EURO
Yesterday, at exactly 13:33 local time, the last two formal and obligatory steps for Bulgaria to join the EURO has been executed.
So, now, it is official - EUR will replace our local currency (BGN) as of 1st of January 2026!
We are going to be the 21st country to adopt the united currency and our national bank will be minting coins and banknotes having texts and graphics in Bulgarian ;)
This big news has inspired me to create this article today and share with you some of my pictures from the capital city and around the country.
I know, the topic is controversial, and too many counter-European voices have been too vocal in the latest months but I am avoiding the topics of politics today, but I am sure everyone will agree this change is substantial and will drag along many other changes with it. Some will be not-so-good but the most will be good in the long run, is my understanding and believes at the moment. Yeah, I'll have to keep you posted...
One of the positive outcomes of the change is that, no doubt, Bulgaria will be attracting more travelers and investors.
Our country has it all - many mountains, sea, valleys, rivers, resorts, rich culture, traditions, arts, awesome cuisine and history dating back to Thracian ages.
So trust me on that. There is plenty to see and try!
Actually, there are so many sites and landmarks that one life is definitely not enough!
So here are some of the Bulgarian places I am sharing today :)

I remember reading about Bulgaria joining the Euro in one of soulsdetour's posts, some time ago. Good to know that it finally happened. Congratulations!
The pictures are breathtaking as always.
I hope this change will be a positive one as anticipated.

Thanks so much, I hope that too, but am already preparing for some surprises as there will be ups and downs for sure.
The authorities are a bit ignorant is many regards, sometimes they speak like it hasn't ever happened before and inventing the wheel, if you know what I mean :)))
Moreover, given the change must happen on 1st of January, plenty of holidays around, it most probably will not be flawless either :D
It is an anticipated change for me, so I'll be watching all closely (not that I have another choice :)))
Have a great day! :)
Congratulations!
It is a bit change for the country!

Hi,
The places you share in the photos are very attractive.
Today I saw on the news that Bulgaria's entry into the Euro was officially announced. I understand it will take effect in January 2026.
Changes always bring about opinions, both in favor and against. I hope you can find common ground that benefits your country.

As a kid, I read a story about Bulgaria, basically about Gabrovo. Then some scenes from the Dilwale movie of SRK. Your country is very lovely.
Thank you :)
Gabrovo is a beautiful city and interestingly, exactly at the geometrical center of Bulgaria :)))
It also has an amazing ethnographical village nearby, called "Etar" with old artisans producing many stuff, almost all manually.
I wasn't aware there is a Bollywood connection :) I observed some scenes being shot in Romania, though :)
Have a great day!
Read the plot—especially the 2000s part. You will get it.

There will be pros and cons, of course and what I am sure will go wrong is the lack of desire by the authorities to control the rude profiteers who are already in action, knowing the change will happen in about six months. Prices are already going up here, nothing like the countries around, so not the normal inflation...
Human greed and selfishness are what make it not-so-good...
Actually, that happened in all those 20 countries before us, nothing new under the sun :D
